Solar Car Battery

This is the battery currently in service in third generation Illini Solar Car “Calypso”. This is the first battery used in Illini Solar Car that is optimized for cooling when operating in extremely high summer temperatures. It features a 28 of the 9-cell pack designed with ventilation channels reserved between cells to allow air pass through as the vehicle drives.

My contribution in this project was the idea of integrating air channels between battery cells and the design of this 9-cell battery module to satisfy this purpose. I also contributed to the first few iterations of the structural design of the battery box with fiber glass sandwich panels.
